While witnessing the dramatic changes in the better-off society，people begin to reconsider the question of "survival". "Survival" in the old sense does not bother us anymore. Competition always carries abreast challenges and opportunities to everyone involved. It might appear in an entrance exam，in a regular class，or in a small public speech.
Those who fail to detect its real nature-whether an opportunity or a challenge a petition really is- will lose something more or less conducive to our growth. As students in the university , we are also under our special stress . While study , having to take various tests and submit a project against a deadline may put a great pressure on us .

What he tended to do in his class was to recite several segments of the famous ancient prose and then put them into English. However, under the pressure of College Entrance Exam, the students didn`t seem to be so interested in his performance. Therefore, he tried to stimulate the class by editions of Times as prizes for answering questions. It worked on us instantly.
On the day of the entrance exam, he waited nervously with us out of the examination room. He kept reminding us not to drink water in case that we would feel like going to toilet during the exam. Not withstanding his constant claims that we students were far less important than his beloved daughter, we did feel his devotion to us.

good morning ladies and gentlemen. today i’m very glad to be here with you to share my stories and opinions about reading. i love reading from the bottom of my heart. and i do learn a lot from books. i know the wonderful stories of great heroes in history, secrets of nature, mysteries of ufo and our universe. to me , books are like a faithful friend, always around me , giving me enjoyment and wisdom. i remember when i was in primary school, ten or eleven years old, my father borrowed some books from the library in his school. those were among the greatest works of the world, including abrabian nights、the legend of deification, journey to the west, and the romance of the three kingdoms. these books were all written in
ancient chinese characters but i tried to read the heavy books and were deeply attracted. from then on, i spared every minute to read whatever i could get. whenever i got a new book, i kept reading until i finished it despite time and place. i read books even in class or just a few minutes before the exams. in my mind, there is always an unforgettable scene: lying in bed, nervous but excited, my friend and i read a book together in the weak light of a flashlight , with a quilt on us, in order not to be blamed by parents. all my classmates thought i was crazy and gave me a nickname “bookworm”. so you can understand why i got my eyes shortsighted.
till now, i still like reading as i used to. and i’m very
today we live in a world of prosperity. never before have we
faced so many temptation from the outside world. never before have we had so many chances to enjoy our lives. we drive rather than walking; we go online to chat with people we’ve never met before instead of talking to friends around us. but there’s always something that cannot be replaced and forgotten., such as books. so i will allow myself to continue the journey in the ocean of books until the very end of my life.
finally, i’d like to end my speech with a great philosopher, writer and thinker, francis bacon’s famous saying: reading makes a full man. studies serve for delight, for ornament, and for ability.thank you very much.

like a child endlessly asking, we humans, throughout history, have been continually demanding what we desire from nature. we enjoy the comfort and beauty of our furniture, yet we never bother to think about the serious soil erosion caused by deforestation. we take it for granted that we must warm ourselves in winter times, yet we seldom realize the burning away of precious natural resources. we appreciate all the prosperity from the development of modern industry, yet few would give the slightest consideration to the global air and water pollution caused by industrial wastes. our ruthless exploitation has permanently impaired our mother earth. as we tragically learned from last summer's floods. we cannot continue our carelessness. finally, standing here at the threshold of the 21st century, we cannot help thinking of our posterity. nature is not only the mother of the present generation, but also the mother of the generations to come. how severely our descendents will criticize us if we leave them a barren and lifeless mother? how much more they will appreciate us if we give them a world of harmony to inherit? let us start respecting and caring for nature from now on. let us start the campaign of creating a mutually beneficial relationship between people and nature right from this moment. with this new start, i firmly believe, that our children, and our children's children will live in a brand new age of green trees, clean air, crystal water, blue sky and an even more promising world!

i am chinese. i am proud of being a chinese with five thousand years of civilization behind. i’ve learned about the four great inventions made by our forefathers. i’ve learned about the great wall and the yangtze river. i’ve learned about zhang heng and i’ve learned about zheng he.who says the yellow river civilization has vanished?i know that my ancestors have made miracles on this fertile land and we’re still making miracles.
who can ignore the fact that we have established ourselves as a great state in the world，that we have devised our own nuclear weapons，that we have successfully sent our satellites into space，and that our gnp ranks no. 7 in the world? we have experienced the plunders by other nations，and we have experienced the war. yet，based on such ruins，there still stands our nation----china，unyielding and unconquerable!
i once came across an american tourist. she said，“china has a history of five thousand years，but the us only has a history of 200 years. five thousand years ago，china took the lead in the world，and now it is the us that is leading.” my heart was deeply touched by these words. it is true that we’re still a developing nation，but it doesn’t mean that we can despise ourselves.
we have such a long-standing history，we have such abundant resources，we have such intelligent and diligent people，and we have enough to be proud of. we have reasons to say proudly：we are sure to take the lead in the world in the future again，for our problems are big，but our ambition is even bigger，our challenges are great，but our will is even greater.
